Carla Peck

Dr. Carla Peck is a Professor of Social Studies Education and Adjunct Professor of History, Classics and Religion at the University of Alberta, where she has spent almost two decades exploring how history education can strengthen democracy, civic engagement, and social inclusion. Carla’s research has transformed understanding of how young people’s identities shape their engagement with history, citizenship, and democratic life, influencing scholarship, curriculum development, teacher education, and public policy across Canada and internationally. Currently, as the Director of Thinking Historically for Canada’s Future, Carla leads a team of more than 60 researchers and partner organizations conducting the largest and most comprehensive study of K–12 history education in Canada since the 1960s. An award-winning scholar, author, and public intellectual, Carla is co-author of Rescuing Reason: How History Education Can Help Save Democracy. She is a prominent public scholar whose extensive media engagement has helped bring evidence-based perspectives on curriculum, history education, and democratic citizenship to broader public audiences.
