A Good War book launch

In A Good War (ECW Press, 2020), Seth Klein explores how we can align our politics and economy with what the science says we must do to address the climate crisis. But Klein brings an original and uniquely hopeful take to this challenge. The book is structured around lessons from the Second World War the last time Canada faced an existential threat. Others have said we need a wartime approachto climate change, but this is the first book to delve into what that could actually look like. Canadas wartime experience, Klein contends, provides an inspirational reminder that we have done this before. We have mobilized in common cause across class, race and gender, and entirely retooled our economy in the space of a few short years.

A talk by Seth Klein

Seth Klein served for 22 years as the founding director of the British Columbia office of the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives (CCPA), He is now a freelance policy consultant, speaker, researcher and writer and is an adjunct professor with Simon Fraser Universitys Urban Studies program, and remains a research associate with the CCPAs BC Office.

Panel discussion

Dr. Angele Alook is proud member of Bigstone Cree Nation and professor of Sociology at York University. She is a co-investigator with the Corporate Mapping Project, where she is carried out research with Parkland Institute on Indigenous experiences in Albertas oil industry and its gendered impact on working families.

Danielle  Fuechtmann is a climate justice organizer based in Edmonton and a graphic designer and textile artist. She runs ThreePointFive Design and Curious Fox Fibres.

Gil McGowan is the President of the Alberta Federation of Labour.

A musical performance by Gerald Wheatley and the Arusha Centre House Band.
