Carmen Plante

With a bachelor degree (University of Calgary) and a master’s degree (McGill) in social work, Carmen Plante has taught 11 of the last 16 years in the social work program at Red Deer College (RDC). Her passion lies in social policy (the structural causes of social issues), citizen participation, community development, and research – not only in theory, but also application. Social issues of particular interest include single parents, poverty, migration/immigration, rural communities, Indigenous issues and governance. During the years away from RDC, Carmen was involved in community work, research, and pursuing a PhD in social work at McMaster University.
