Welcome to the new Parkland Institute site!

Welcome to the new Parkland site! The launch of the Parkland Institute site follows the launch of our improved fall conference and Parkland Post sub-sites.

Note: some folks have written to let us know that some of the text is scrumbled on the home page. This may be because you are using an outdated version of browsing software to surf the internet. While we work on making our site more compatible with older browsers, you may want to take the time to upgrade your browsing software: Here are links to the latest versions of Firefox, Safari, Internet Explorer, and Opera. Thanks for continuing to give the Parkland feedback.

In keeping with the Parkland Institute's mandate of research and education for the common good, the purpose of the redesign is to push our research to the forefront of our web presences, and in a friendlier, contemporary, accessible, and more organized format.

There are a number of new things you can do on the Parkland site:

  • Comment and ask questions under selected media releases, research and news items, and be notified when someone comments on your comment. (Note: commenting is moderated to keep the conversations civil and constructive.)
  • Find research and writing by subject keyword from "tag clouds" in the find by topic page. Try: healthcare, energy policy, democracy, or Alberta Advantage. Tag clouds that find items-by-topic particular to each section are available in the sidebar of most sections.
  • View our extended events calendar which also includes community events.
  • Post your events related to research and social change to our calendar.
  • Find specific research with the Parkland search engine.
  • Share our articles on social media like Facebook, Twitter, Digg, Delicious or StumbleUpon.
  • Email stories to friends.
  • Get notified, by RSS feeds, of Parkland media releases and advisories, Parkland news, calendar events, and new research when you are not on the site.
  • Explore reading lists and other action items under selected research, media items, Post stories.
  • Download copies of most research in PDF format, including Parkland Post issues.

How to help the new Parkland site

As the site was just launched in mid-March, we've done a lot of last-minute jimmying around with the site content. The most helpful thing you could do is notify us of any errors that you stumble across, like a broken link or a messed-up layout. If you could also please give us feedback on how you are liking things so far, and what features you would like to see added. We're super appreciative for your help here. Thanks in advance!

An important note about privacy

As you may have noticed, certain features like commenting on stories or posting to our events calendar require you to log in first. The Parkland Institute never shares your email address or login information, nor trades or sells them in any way, even with organizations we are in close association with. For more information, read our privacy policy.

Our to-do list on the site

We have planned and forthcoming features and content on the site.

  • Optimize the speed of the site
  • Refine and improve the appearance of the site in Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser and Google's Chrome browser
  • Better integration of our multimedia content
  • Add further back issues of the Parkland Post (before 2008) and letters to the Parkland Post
